AI amplifies the need for human understanding

AI doesn’t replace human thinking. It amplifies the need for human understanding.

I think we’ve been looking at the "Human vs. AI" debate through the wrong lens, or at least with an incomplete picture.

➡️ It isn’t just about automation, it’s also about the EVOLUTION OF DELEGATION.

When you delegate to a human, you aren’t just handing off a task, you’re handing off understanding and accountability. If the trust is there, you can give someone a broad objective and step back. You don’t need to double-check every step because you trust their judgment.

When you delegate to AI, the dynamic changes:
↳ AI can think, but it cannot "understand"
↳ AI requires human-in-the-loop (HITL) oversight because it lacks the accountability and context-driven judgment a human possesses.

In other words, organizations will need more people who can build understanding, structure it, and communicate it clearly, a role already shared across many functions, but especially natural for Business Analysts (BAs).

In fact, my view is that this already constitutes a BA's most important input.

As the supply of machine-generated "thinking" increases, the demand for human understanding will skyrocket 🚀📈

Executives and managers have limited bandwidth; they cannot be in the minute details of every decision. They need a bridge.

I see 2 ways to address this:

↳ Scaling the BA Role: AI-enhanced BAs become the guardians of understanding and act as the bridge between on-the-ground complexity and strategic decision-making. Additionnaly, non-BA profiles start taking on BA-like responsabilities.

↳ Optimizing AI Reporting and HITL processes: If we do not want to get overwhelmed by the sheer information processing power, speed and volume given to us by AI, we need to get better at understanding its outputs and improve our ability to supervise and control it. This means improving how we review AI outputs and how we control AI processes.

➡️ In both scenarios, we should expect an increase in BA-like roles where the role of people is to understand, receive delegated responsabilities and effectively bring up understanding and important decision points to executive decision-makers.

The future isn't humans being out of work, it's everyone becoming thoughtful strategic advisors!
